Submit a Motion to Intergroup


If you would like to submit a motion to the Secretary of the S.L.A.A. Los Angeles Intergroup to be voted on at the next meeting, you may do so by filling out the form below, or by sending an email to the Secretary: secretary (at) slaalosangeles.org. 

NOTE: 

  • Submitting a motion via this form is not a guarantee that it will be processed. We suggest that you verify that the Secretary has received your motion by contacting him/her or asking before the meeting.

  • You must attend the Intergroup meeting (or send a proxy,) to have your motion voted on.

Resolved Intergroup Motions 2022

  • December 12, 2022 - Motion to have Intergroup be In-Person only, continuing at the current location 2930
    Hyperion for the year of 2023 was rejected.

  • October 9, 2022 - Vote for Intergroup Secretary for 2023. Claire nominated and elected.
    Discussion on continuing Intergroup as a hybrid meeting in 2023 - Most of the equipment to run the hybrid is JayK's and since he has a new-born he may not be in intergroup next year.

  • September 11, 2022 - Motion for intergroup to pay for Pizza each month at In-Person – Up to $80 worth. Motion passed.
    Motion to Merge Virtual and In-Person Registrar Commitments for 2023. Motion fails.
    Elect Assistant Treasurer. Voratia nominated and elected.

  • August 14, 2022 - Elect Literature Committee Conduit. Gil is nominated and elected.
    Elect Diversity Committee Conduit - Isador is nominated and elected.

    Motion for Intergroup to pay for pizza each month at in-person intergroup ... up to 80 dollars. Tabled until next month.
    Motion to merge virtual and in-person meeting registrar commitments in 2023. Tabled until next month.

  • July 10, 2022 - Should we create a Spanish Language Liaison Commitment who would aid in any Spanish Speaking meeting or member who may be monolingual, solely speaking Spanish. The commitment holder would help these meetings and members get the assistance they need regarding meeting and literature info, etc. Commitment holder should be bi-lingual. 6 Months sobriety requirement. Holds vote in intergroup. Julie M nominated and elected.
    Elect Virtual Registrar Commitment: 6 Months Sobriety Requirement. 1 Year Term. End of Year December. Therefore, 5-month commitment. Kristen S nominated and elected.
    Elect a replacement Phone Line Commitment. Katy nominated and elected
    Elect a Workshops and Retreats Liaison. Manuel nominated and elected.

  • June 12, 2022 - For Intergroup to create a committee to plan and host an SLAA LA Intergroup Dance Party to take place in September - close vote but narrowly defeated.
    Elect an alternate delegate to the ABM, Oscar was nominated and elected.
    Pay for the Journal Editor to upgrade to a single room at the ABM.

  • May 8, 2022 - Elect alternate delegates to the ABM, Julie M and Lenore were nominated and elected

  • April 10, 2022 - Create an ASL Access Fund: Starts with 0 balance as there is no existing fund, Controlled and administered by intergroup. Most likely run by the treasurer, Anyone in SLAA can contribute to the fund. Money going into the fund would be used for meetings requesting an interpreter for meetings.

  • March 13, 2022 - Allocate $2,160 seed money from Intergroup Treasury to direct hire 1 year’s worth of ASL interpreting services (2-person team) for the Thursday 6pm Silver Lake meeting.
    For LA Intergroup to select a representative to attend the Intergroup Virtual Forum, and report to Intergroup in April.

  • February 13, 2022 - Continue to provide masks and hand sanitizer for intergroup? Until we are running low, we table this discussion so we can continue to use the supplies we have.
    To have the ABM delegates hold a separate Zoom meeting organized by them, in
    which they seek the feedback of the Los Angeles SLAA Fellowship on various matters to be
    discussed at the ABM. Delegates will curate the topics to be discussed in a limited 1.5 hour time
    frame, but time will also be set aside for open forum from members. Date of the meeting will be
    determined by the delegates.
    For SLAA LA intergroup to hire special workers, per tradition 8, for deaf and hard of
    hearing fellows who request ASL interpretation at SLAA LA in-person group meetings. Info:
    equitable access to communication in a timely manner is more than a need. It is a human right.
    Amendment: Motion changed so that the Intergroup would pay only for the once a
    month interpreter at Silver Lakes' Wednesday at 6.

  • January 9, 2022 – Intergroup purchase and provide kn-95/n-95 masks and hand sanitizer free of charge to
    the attendees of the intergroup meeting.

  • June 14, 2020 – To change “co-ed” to “all-gender” in the LA SLAA Intergroup website and all literature that LA SLAA Intergroup controls.

  • May 3, 2020 – To rename the Jails and Treatment Centers Committee to Hospitals and Institutions Committee

  • April 5, 2020 – To accept online donations through PayPal and Venmo.

  • Nov. 10, 2019 – To form a new task force to find a more affordable monthly meeting space for Intergroup, due to recent rent increase.

  • Nov. 10, 2019 – To increase the prudent reserve for S.L.A.A. Los Angeles to $4,000

  • Oct. 13, 2019 – To announce at each Intergroup meeting that donations must be submitted before 1 PM on the day of the Intergroup meeting.

  • Oct. 13, 2019 – To present a Fellowship-Wide Services Board of Trustees report at the L.A. Intergroup meeting, if an F.W.S. BOT member is in attendance.

  • Sept. 8, 2019 – To form a new committee to update the S.L.A.A. Los Angeles Service Manual.

  • Mar. 10, 2019 – Nonprofit Committee appointed to be “acting” Board of Trustees to conduct business on behalf of Corporation (open new bank account; register for sales taxes).

  • Mar. 10, 2019 – Minimum Requirements approved for Nonprofit Board of Trustees: 2 years sobriety, 2 years Intergroup Service; 2 years in program, attend in I.G. meetings regularly.  

  • Jan. 13, 2019 – To hire William Ramseyer, Attorney at Law to handle Nonprofit incorporation.

  • Jan. 13, 2019 – For L.A. Intergroup to become a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Corporation in CA;

  • July 9, 2023 - To create September 2023 as Gratitude Month for the purposes of getting the S. L. A. A. Los Angeles prudent reserve to the level needed.

  • July 9, 2023 - To repeal the motion that provided $80 for Pizza at Intergroup each month.

  • March 12, 2023 -- To create a service position to bring the Pizza to Intergroup each Month. Motion Passed and Jake elected to the position. 

  • February 12, 2023 -- The Webmaster stepped down, Dave G volunteered and was elected to the position

  • January 8, 2023 – To create a Hybrid commitment, fill the commitment, purchase equipment, train and assist the position for 2 months, and stay at our current location, reassessing the necessity of this commitment in the new year. Motion Passed and David G elected to the position.
