We in S.L.A.A. believe that sex and love addiction is a progressive illness which cannot be cured but can be arrested. It can take many forms, including a compulsive need for sex;  an extreme dependency or obsession with another person (or many); sexual or romantic activity outside the scope of a monogamous relationship; obsessive fantasy, whether sexual or romantic; a compulsive attraction to unavailable or abusive partners; compulsively engaging in anonymous or casual sex; or a compulsive avoidance of physical intimacy, social contact or emotional attachment.  When an obsessive/ compulsive pattern exists, it can become increasingly destructive to career, family and one's sense of self esteem and self respect. Sex and love addiction, if left unchecked, always gets worse.
